SRI KRISHNA MANDIR at GOKUL in Sion, which was established nearly five decades ago, has become one of the most popular Mandirs in the vicinity of this Mumbai suburb. The adorable deity of Lord Gopalakrishna, standing in a riveting posture, playing the flute with a smiling face, with the ‘Gomata’ behind him, holds a magnetic attraction for devotees, innumerable of whom have expressed that they have found solace and experienced fulfillment of their wishes and aspirations.

The Mandir is open for Darshan between 6-45 and 9-00 in the morning and between 5-30 and 9.00 in the evening. The Nithya Pooja is conducted daily, twice, at 7-30 a.m. and 7-30 p.m. respectively. The day starts with Kalasha Abhishekha, with various Suktas, Alankara, Shodashopachara pooja followed by Archanas like Srikrishna-ashothara Shatanama archana, Vishnu-Sahasranama archana , Shreesukta , Dhoopa Deepa, etc. Then the offering of Naivedya is done with Ksheera Payasa, Nalikera, Kadali Phala and varieties of fruits, Mantra Pushpa, etc. Thereafter, a multitude of ‘aratis’ are raised viz. Dhooparathi, Ekarathi, Pancharathi, Salakarathi, Karpoora-arathi, Coormarathi, Ratharathi, etc. ending with Maha Mangalarathi (Hariwana-arathi). This is followed by Prarthana, Uttara Pooja, Rajopachara, and Shankha Theertha prokshana. Finally, Pooja is concluded with Krishna-arpana and Prasada distribution. With prior bookings, other Sevas, such as Alankara Pooja, Maha Pooja, Udayastha Pooja, Ranga Pooja, etc. are performed regularly.

Apart from the above, various religious activities are conducted for the benefit of the devotees, such as Gokulashtami celebration – the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna, with the religious fervor and native touch. The Mandir and the ‘God’s deity’ are decorated with flowers specially flown for the occasion from Mangalore . At midnight, Janmastami Pooja is followed by Arghya and Theertha Prasada. Mosaru Kudike (similar to “Govinda” or “Gopala Kala” in Mumbai) celebrations are the special attraction on the next day and is similar to the one being celebrated in Udupi. Similarly, Prathishta Day, Mahashivarathri, Shri Narasimha Jayanthi, Sri Madhwa Navami, Shri Shankara Jayanthi, Shri Purandara Dasara Aradhane, Shri Raghavendra Swami Punya Thithi, Shri Rama Navami, Daily Tulsi Pooja with Tulsi Vivaha during Deepavali, etc. also are celebrated meticulously and with great devotion. Further, popular religious public functions are also performed like Samoohika Satyanarayana Pooja during Makara Sankranti, Soura Upakarma (a collective sacred thread changing ceremony), Navarthri and Deeparadhane.

All the above activities are conducted under the auspices of the GOPALAKRISHNA PUBLIC TRUST, which is professionally managed by the dedicated, selfless Trustees with the full support of the Religious Committee and the Mandir Priests who have been associated with the Mandir since its inception.
