When there is a death in the family, it creates a sudden vacuum and there is feeling of total loss and helplessness. At this very critical and emotional moment there is a great need of assistance and guidance for the bereaved family especially in arranging for the funeral and carrying out of the last rites. In the current set up of nuclear families, many people do not know how to proceed and whom to contact.

To fill this vacuum of need and to provide this noble service to our members, Shravana Dala team was formed four years back comprising around a dozen elderly persons. The five existing Udipi Mathas in Mumbai were approached to nominate eight priests to be available to perform last rites, as and when required.

Many families have been benefited by this noble service. We have received appreciations from the bereaved families for helping them and being with them during their hour of grief.

The Dala attends to the family, arranges for Purohits and items required for last rites. The honorarium to the Purohits, expenses for chatta, activities at the crematorium, etc; is borne by the association from the Shravana Nindhi corpus.

The Purohits who gave their services during the last year were: Shri Shrikar Bhat from Chandivali–Mob: 932295626, Shri Krishnaprasad Holla of Pejawar Matha-Mob: 9757272941, and Shri Santosh Talekar of Dadar (Marathi Purohit) – Mob: 9869488561.

The Dala has helped more than 33 families since its inception.
